Our company has more than 30 years of experience in this market. We are one of the first companies that commercially manufactured locust bean gum, a product in which we are specialists.

Spain is home to the second largest area of cultivated carob trees in the Mediterranean. The new plant located in Marratxí, Mallorca, was opened in 1996, to adapt to the increasing demands of quality and competitiveness required for the food-grade locust bean gum.

En CAROB, S.A. we strive to protect our natural environment wherever possible. In 2014, we implemented a water treatment system to dramatically reduce the consumption of this important natural resource that takes place during the processing of the carob seed.

In addition, the by-products (germ and skin of the seed) from processing the seed are also recycled in different applications. This is to minimize the amount of waste generated. The skin of the seed is used for agricultural purposes, previously compacted with a mineral substrate, becoming an excellent contribution of organic matter and minerals for our fields and our plantation. Due to the high protein content of the locust bean gum germ, it has multiple applications in food and nutrition.

Due to all of our years of experience, CAROB, S.A. has developed its own technology, optimizing and maximising the manufacturing process of locust bean gum from the endosperm of the seed.

This technological optimization allows us to obtain a product of high viscosity, by preventing the depolymerization of the gum during the manufacturing process; this optimization also produces whiter and brighter qualities when removing the skin or seed coat without darkening the gum itself.
