From 16 august, we buy carob beans

CAROB, a manufacturer of locust bean gum for more than 40 years, has decided to start the local purchase of carob beans in Mallorca. We want to protect the Majorcan primary sector and in this way dignify the value of the carob.

We have made this decision due to events and differences that have arisen in the agricultural sector. As a Mallorcan company we want to prevent carob and carob from leaving the island. This fact affects us all. Our intention and priority has always been to buy all the carob and carob from Mallorca, and thus promote the local product.

Let us remember that the locust bean is the seed of the carob bean, and it only has one viable productive outlet: the locust bean gum. If this market were to end, nothing more could be done with this seed, since the pulp, although it represents around 86% of the carob, has hardly any value.

The farmer must be paid a fairer price. Why? To avoid speculating on the price of locust bean. Due to responsibility, ethics and deontology, we started with the purchase of carob beans.

Our intention, our origins, are clear and transparent, to honor as it deserves one of the jewels that our island offers us: the carob. For environmental coherence and respect for the roots.
